If you read my blog regularly, you have likely picked up on the fact that I rarely write about actual play-by-play events in my life. I may take a jab at nameless acquaintances, or poke fun at bad dressers, rude travelers, poor unsuspecting dates. But I don’t refer to actual people by name, nor do I much share many overly personal details – at least, none that are so, in my opinion.
This post will be different.
Christmas. X-mas. The Yuletide Season. Hanukkah. Kwanzaa. Whatever the holiday, I mean this time of year. The stretch between Halloween and NYE (I won’t even deign to include Valentine’s Day).
I have a love/hate relationship with the holidays.

Old people are awesome. They’ve lived through times in our country that many of us have only read about. They’ve witnessed history; they’ve experienced amazing changes and witnessed unspeakable horrors. They’ve also witnessed moments of our country’s – indeed, our world’s – greatest joys and greatest sorrows.
